Hello!

We’re in the midst of our Capital Fringe run of Tiresias’ Tits, a hilarious yet oddly inspiring gender-bending surrealist burlesque play–we have three shows left, so if you haven’t caught it, you still have time!  Reviews have been really excellent, with my personal favorite quote:

“….physical slapstick with a hearty helping of hard-boiled gender queer buffoonery, (Buster Britches and Cherie Smartbottom do exceptional work on this front)….”

You can read the full review here.

In other news, Pastius Revelio: A Burlesque Tribute to Harry Potter returns to the Black Cat on August 4th with a phenomenal cast, including international performer Caramel Knowledge from Los Angeles, Lydia Ransom from New York, and musical guests, the lewd lyrical lasses known as the Misbehavin’ Maidens!  Tickets just went on sale, so grab yours now!

Whedonism, AwesomeCon, and Capital Fringe Festival

PosterMA_web.jpg

I know, I know, I’m super late in updating my gig dates for June!  Things have been delightfully crazy, with lots of exciting shows on the horizon.  First up, this year not only marks six years of Whedonism: A Burlesque Tribute to Joss Whedon, but also the 20-year anniversary of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series.  To celebrate, this year’s Whedonism is all Buffy-themed.  We had a great show last weekend at the Black Cat in DC, and this Saturday the Slayers, Watchers, Scoobies, and Big Bads hit the road to the Ottobar in Baltimore.

Next, Naked Girls Reading DC returns to AwesomeCon with the panel we debuted last year, Nerdlesque: Bringing Fandom to the Burlesque Stage, thanks to the hard work of Alice Darling.  We had a full room and extremely positive responses last year, and we’re looking forward to bringing some new guests, including DC performer Buster Britches and Anja Keister from New York City, producer of D20 Burlesque and co-producer of the International Nerdlesque Festival (which I had the honor of performing in this year!).

Then I’m back with Astro Pop Events, the creators of the infamous Elvis’ Birthday Fight Club, for the riotous patriotic romp known as America The Game Show, in both DC and Baltimore the weekend before Independence Day.

Finally, I’m returning to Capital Fringe Festival with Eclectic Mayhem Productions’ modern burlesque reinterpretation of the first surrealist play, Tiresias’ Tits’.  Rehearsals are underway, and believe me when I say this show is completely ridiculous and strangely heartwarming.

As we slog through these last few weeks of winter, I’ve got a couple of things coming up that I am supremely excited about!  In addition to all of these fantastic shows, I’m pleased to announce that my Septa Unella act has been selected for the 2017 Nerdlesque Festival in New York City April 28th – 30th!  From the website:

“Created in 2014, this festival showcases the best in nerdlesque from across the planet! As the popularity of nerd-friendly burlesque and cabaret rises daily, this festival aims to encourage and foster the development of nerdlesque as an art form and a community.”

Sweet!

Also, after taking a hiatus through 2016, my House of Sweetbottom classic burlesque and live music show returns to the Black Cat on May 19th and December 1st!  I am so excited about the talent I’m bringing to DC for this show, and I hope you’ll join us for one or both!

Cheers,

Cherie

Now that 2016 is behind us at last, I am ready to start 2017 off right!  I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the cast of Astro Pop Events’ Elvis’ Birthday Fight Club this year.  I have been a huge fan of this show, and of Astro Pop Events in general, for years, and I can’t even tell you how ecstatic and honored I am to be a part of EBFC!  Two words: dream gig!  If you haven’t seen EBFC, now in its seventh iteration, you’re in for a treat.  This knock-out production features seven elaborately staged bouts, Elvis-themed burlesque, and below-the-belt commentary from co-hosts “Elvis” and “Kittie Glitter.”

But that’s not all: I’m performing in a brand new burlesque revue in Annapolis, Maryland, co-producing and performing in a burlesque and variety tribute to the Addams Family, and joining Blacklist Burlesque in Richmond for a Queen tribute.  All in the first couple weeks of the year!  Later in the month (on Inauguration Day, no less!), Naked Girls Reading returns with the ever-popular January erotica show.  Beautiful naked women reading erotica on stage?  Whew!  Let’s get into the details, shall we?

Friday, January 6, 2017 and Saturday January 7, 2017:  Elvis’ Birthday Fight Club 2017 at GALA Hispanic Theatre, 3333 14th St NW, Washington, DC.  Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/elvis-birthday-fight-club-2017-tickets-29751167543?aff=affiliate1
